Something to Make You Smile

Sweet friends, it's been awhile. Thanks to those of you who've checked in on me. Your instincts are right. Winter depression was hovering over me like a dark, heavy, wet blanket. It's the worst feeling...and leads to the very thing I don't need: isolation and withdrawal. It doesn't help that it's been the coldest winter I've ever experienced!

But that's not the end of the story. In the midst of barren, broken places, beauty is rising. And beauty will have the last word in my story! God is doing a deep work, and when I can put it into words, I hope to share.

But for today, I wanted to show you what's making me smile here on the farm. Aslan has found a best friend in Bella. Watching them will melt your heart and make you laugh out loud!

Here's the video I took on a 5 degree morning:

{Email readers click here.}

And here are a few photos on the same chilly morning:

Buddy is a gentle giant and tolerates him for a few minutes...

But it's Bella who plays with him long after Buddy walks away.

She plays until he wears himself out.

Best friends.

And my sweet and sleepy Buddy.

It's a glorious Friday on the farm today: sunshine and the most crisp, clear kind of air. The kind that makes me feel like I have sharper vision. {Perfect for beauty hunting!} If there's one good thing I can say about all the dreary winter days we've had, it's that they make me appreciate the glory in a bright, sunshiny day!

Happy Friday, sweet friends!

  2. Adorable! I'm in love with your sweet-spirited dogs--all three of them! With regards to the winter blues . . . I told my kids the other day that I wished I was a mother bear. I'd eat all spring/summer long, get nice and fat, and then sleep through the misery of winter. Sounds delightful, right? Love you. Praying for you.

  5. Love the video. Yes, this has been somewhat of a record winter for the Mid-South. Franklin is such beautifully rich country. I have not visited in a long time and wish to return soon.

Rest assured, our winters aren't always like this! I get the blues when it's cold, dark and dreary as well. I hope you feel better soon.

  8. I think that this winter has been hard on many of us. We are just digging out from a blizzard, here in Minnesota, and we have alot of winter left....... Thank you for sharing that delightful video. What a patient dog that Bella is!

  11. Ah yes, the dark of winter. It can envelope. You are not alone. Thankfully, we know spring is coming. I am so excited to see those first few buds popping out. What seems lifeless will soon be beautiful. I pray that spring puts a bounce in your step. ~ Maria

  13. I watched your video several times with my four year old son. He enjoyed the voices I did long with the video...Aslan in a high pitched voice saying "play with me! Come on, come on, play with me!" and Bella in a deep calm voice saying "settle down, just settle doen now." :)

  14. glad to see you back- I checked in every day but did not want to pry. Winter will do that to you! Precious pups- enjoyed that! Leave it to the female to hold down and do what's gotta be done while the man does his own thing! I'm telling' ya- we ought to rule the world, us women! Looks like that works for the dog world too!

  16. I, too, check in daily and have been worried. So so so happy to have you back. The sun will rise each day and you will find the beauty He has hidden. In many cases it is not hidden. You are beauty for me, Linsey. Please don't hide.

  17. What a sweet video! Isn't it amazing that dogs can actually be "friends?" Our golden has a beagle friend down the road and they go crazy when they get together! Glad to see you posting again, Linsey. Just read Isaiah 43:19, "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up, do you not perceive it? I am makin a way in the desert ( the long winter!) and streams in the wasteland." Blessings to you!

  21. Hi Linsey, I am a friend of Nancy Baycroft's and have been following you for a while. I've been in the "black hole" lately also. A couple of girlfriends and I attended the Women of Faith event here in Houston this past weekend. Priscilla Shirer has a new book I bought and am reading...I think it would "speak" to you and lift your spirits...it's called "God is Able". One day at a time, the fog will lift soon.

    1. So good to know who you are, Liz. Always encouraging to know the names of the real people on the other side of this computer screen. Wondering if Lisa Harper was at the Houston event. She teaches the Bible study I attended last year. Right after moving here, I showed up a Bible study where I knew absolutely no one...in a house of someone I didn't know...taught by a woman I didn't know. And it was Lisa Harper. She's so funny and made me laugh on some down days. I'll have to look at Priscilla's book.

  22. Prayers and support to you Linsey! I can't begin to post anything more uplifting than what I've already read in the above comments. What a wonderful support group you have! You minister to us and you receive in return. I hope the comments lifted some of heaviness. The video is just adorable. Makes me smile.
