Chasing Our Dream {And Moving to Franklin}

My head is spinning, my heart is racing, the rain is pouring...and we're MOVING! We're taking a giant leap of faith and chasing the Franklin Dream. {I still can't believe we're really going for it!}

When I spoke our dream out loud to you a few weeks ago, I had no idea what would come of it. All I knew was that after almost two and half years of dreaming quietly, it felt right to speak up...to trust God out loud.

When you start dreaming, you have no guarantee of how things will turn out in the end. Maybe that's why dreaming always scared me. But this place of not knowing provides a fertile ground for faith and trust to grow. This is the gift and beauty of dreaming, my friends! Trusting God with every step {and trusting that He is good regardless of what happens to the dream} has increased my faith more than anything else in life.

I can't wait to unpack more of the story with you in the months ahead, but for today, I just wanted you to know the big news. I'll close with an email I sent to friends just a few days ago:
Dear Friends,

I'm a predictable, always-the-same kind of girl, so I feel a little out of my element to be the one with big news, but here it is: this summer, our family is taking a huge leap of faith and moving to the small town of Franklin, Tennessee. The news just became "official" today as the last door opened.

Gulp. We're super excited to follow a country dream that's been on our hearts for a couple of years, but leaving those we love and all that is familiar here in Houston won't be easy. (I'm misty-eyed even as I write this.) I'm the girl who said we'd never move...especially with all of our family here, JD's private practice, a home and neighborhood we love and a school we adore.

But dreams are crazy things. And sometimes, the craziest dreams just might come true! After much prayer and countless conversations, we feel a tremendous sense of peace about this crazy dream. The girls are beyond excited (another confirmation for us). We're dreaming of chickens, fresh eggs, a garden, a bunny, a dog...I think I've always been a country girl at heart! And the beautiful thing about Franklin is that you can do all of this just 25 minutes outside of Nashville! Oh, my...and four seasons, live music everywhere (for the two musicians in my family!), rolling hills...don't you think you should come visit?!?!

There are so many stories I could share from the last few years that have pointed us in this direction. Some have been gut-wrenching, some have been joy-filled, but all have been used for good in the end. We're feeling more FREE and submitted to the Lord than we've ever been, and THAT is a blessing!

We'll be in Houston until at least mid-June. Hope to see our Houston friends before we go!

Blessings to you, my friends!

love and hugs,

  8. I don't think I've ever left a comment before, but your blog has always been such an inspiration to me. You are so beautiful (as well as your family) and you always speak to me in your writing. Welcome to Tennessee!!! I live in Brentwood, TN which I'm sure you are familiar with. It is in Williamson County between Franklin and Nashville. I will leave you with my email if you ever have any ??'s or need anything. ( recommendations for anything you might need). I won't get offended at all if you don't email me as I would be very apprehensive to email someone who left a comment on my blog. That is WAY out of my comfort zone. My email is adcockcd@yahoo.com and my blog is lenchristineandwill.blogspot.com. I haven't updated in quite awhile as I'm 37 weeks pregnant with my 3rd boy and just trying to make it through each day! We have great a great friend who is an orthro at the Bone and Joint Clinic in Franklin if you ever need him as a contact. His name is Dr. Cory Calendine (one of the nicest, most Godly men I know). Take care and best wishes!

  16. I will assume that though you were inviting your "real life friends" to visit, the fact that you posted it on your blog was your way of inviting all of us as well. I will let you get settled in a bit, and then I'd love to come and see the new place ;). So excited for you, what an adventure....

  17. Congratulations! I just found your blog yesterday as Holly Mathis shared it with me in an e-mail. She thought we knew one another. I spent a lot of time perusing your beautiful blog yesterday. I must tell you that I am so thrilled for you. We did the same thing years ago (picked up and left Houston fro a small college town with rolling hills and four seasons!) But I also felt a little sad because as I read your blog, I felt like I was visiting with a dear friend...one I never met.. We are so similar in many ways.

    Our family went on a similar food path as you for similar reasons (oldest had some ADD signs and middle son had stomach issues and I had MS symptoms). We changed the way we ate and we all got better! Also, I live the same part of town as you and our kids go to Ozark! I LOVE stationary and want to order cards from you this year. All this to say, I wish I had found you sooner and I wish we had met in our little neck of the woods cause I think we'd be good friends. That might sound strange but in reading the CS lewis quote at the bottom...that is how I felt reading your blog. We have been through many of the same things in life.

    Anyway, I wish you all the blessings life has to offer. I know your move will be fabulous and I hope to see it all unfold her on your blog. Also, I hope I can order cards from you this fall!

    Best,
    Kim

  20. I have been following your blog for awhile now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. When I saw your blog title today, I knew I had to introduce myself. I live in Tennessee, actually Tullahoma, which is about an hour and a half from Franklin. My daughter plays volleyball in tournaments there on occasion. It is a beautiful area, isn't it? So much beautiful land. So much history. Nashville is wonderful. Tennessee is an amazing state! I have lived here all of my life. Welcome, early, to the rolling hills of this great state!

    PS...Nashville has a great flea market that I go to every month.

    God bless you and your family as you take this leap of faith. How exciting to see what God has planned for you all. Amy Kinser

  38. I just ran across your blog and love it already. Oddly enough, I'm from Houston (born in Mississippi) and happen to love Tennessee, especially the Franklin area. Sounds like a great adventure ahead for you and your family.

  39. I must share with you a little about how I was led to your blog! My husband and I are from Canada and in January we were given an opportunity to work in Houston and we've been praying about it ever since. God has given us such peace and we're excited as we work through negotiations as we truly feel his direction and blessing in this opportunity. A few months ago I was struggling with the emotions of leaving family, friends, church community, and everything we've loved here and I was pleading and praying in faith that he would be with us every step of the way. Lo and behold I intended to click on a realtor site but landed on your blog. It was emotional for me to read your blog posts about following your dream to Nashville and leaving everything behind as you never thought you would ever leave your hometown. You don't know how encouraging it was for me to read how God used your family's move to strengthen your relationship and dependence on him. God works in mysterious ways ;) I know you're a busy woman but I would just love to connect with you via email even for a brief correspondence in regards to our move to Houston. My email is gkvanw@gmail.com. Thank you for sharing your vulnerable and raw emotions. I am thankful for your honesty and I hope you know it has touched my life and what a blessing to see God work in your family throughout your move! It has only just begun for us but I'm so encouraged to see how your family has flourished on the other end of the move!

  40. Hi Linsey,
    I am a fellow Houstonian....well, Katyite, actually...with a dream of living in Franklin, TN too! We have a friend who lives there, and works with the Christian music industry and he tells us how wonderful it is. I'm happy for you -- it sounds like you have found an ideal home there.
    Our family of 7 is coming to visit in June and I can't wait! And I can't wait to see how the Lord might work it out for us to move there ...probably in 3 years. For now, we'd love to find some land to build a cabin on and have a little getaway. :)
    Maybe one day we'll be neighbors. :)
    Blessings,
