Time With Friends

We've just returned from one of our favorite Labor Day weekend traditions: visiting our dear friends and their five beautiful girls!

We're never ready to say goodbye {or to face the Labor Day traffic}, but we're always thankful for time well spent with this precious family. Our girls have known each other their whole lives. It's so sweet to see them reunite each year as if no time has passed.

See my little Laura Finley on the left? I'm laughing now,
but those were hard days. This was her typical look before
we changed the way we eat. Now she sparkles and shines!

Hallie with her same age friend...
though she loves them all like sisters!

{5 years old in 2006.}

Laura Finley and her twin friends:

{You should see these girls play dolls!}

And the same trio in 2006...

Seems like yesterday!

When we got home, Laura Finley cried big, heartfelt tears because she wasn't going to wake up the next day with her "best, best friends." She says they understand her better than anyone else {they get her imagination and love of dolls}. Isn't that the sweetest thing...to feel understood by a friend at such a young age?

I don't blame her one bit for crying. I told her friends are worth our tears because they last for eternity {unlike toys, clothes, dessert, getting our way...all temporary things not worth our tears}.

The mama of these girls we love so much is one of my favorite people on earth. During my low points at Vanderbilt, she loved me well. And you know what? I'd go through a rough patch again in a heartbeat just to come through it with her as my friend! {I love how the Lord doesn't waste anything...especially our sufferings.}

I'm so thankful for the ways God has deepened our friendship over the years. And now...to see our girls enjoy such sweet friendship is a blessing sweeter than any I could've imagined!

Friends are definitely worth our time!

Hugs and love,

  1. What an awesome post! Nothing better than girlfriends. Have a blessed day and thanks for sharing.

  2. This is so precious!!! What wonderful, lasting relationships you are helping your daughters build. These pictures are so sweet.

    Our neighbors are moving next month and Baylor and I have been praying every night that his new best friend for life will move in! I can't wait to watch him form real, sweet friendships.

  3. oh my goodness...what a treasure here on earth that you are building for eternity in these friendships.

    I love that you wrote that during your difficult time at Vanderbilt that this sweet friend "loved you well."

    It is good to be loved well.

  4. Oh wow, these girls are amazing! It is great to see the photos from over the years and how they have grown! I love them in their smocked dresses and now in their t-shirts! Being known and loved is a true picture of Christ and I am so thankful that you and your daughters have found that! I remember once when my daughter told me someone was her true friend. What a blessing that even at these tender ages they can see the difference!

  5. Girlfriends are the greatest gift...these are precious photos and ones I am sure your girls will cherish the older they get! Praise God!

  6. Loving those little dresses in 2006! What a darling photo! So sweet to look at them over time.

  10. I am speechless at the thought of what a bond of friendship and history these girls will share as they continue to grow up. I have always longed to have this kind of history with girlfriends but alas we moved once a year until I began middle school. Absolutely love the group photos as they have grown!!!! And little Laura Finley - what a transformation!

  11. what a fun post. Love watching each and every one of those beautiful little ladies grow up. Also love your message here and how you talked it over with Laura Finley. Friends are certainly worth our tears. Your posts always make me feel so good :)

  12. how did i miss this the first time around?

    what true words...the lord will not waste our sufferings.

    what treasure these girls are!
    beautiful families...each of you.
