Living Life To The Full

While visiting my husband's family in their early 1900's Vermont lakeside cabin, I did all of the things on my list...and one thing I never imagined:

I devoured Get Lucky while swinging in the hammock.

{Thank you, Katherine, for another happy ending! And YES,
I recommend all three of her books; perfect summer reading!}

I visited the best-ever lampshade shop...

...with the best-ever husband.

I soaked up time with my girls...

...and tried to take in all the ways they have grown.

But here's where I strayed from the list and did the unexpected (gasp!):

{Little Me, 1982}

I played tennis. Every. Single. Day. On a rugged clay court with an old racket and a can of flat balls. With a worn out pitcher's arm that knows more about fast balls and change ups than serving and and volleying. And with a body that's fifteen years out of shape! (I'll be visiting the best-ever sports injury specialist for sure! Lucky for me, I'm married to him!)

My husband claims I had a smile on my face the entire time, so I guess you could say I really liked playing!

Of course, there's more to this story than meets the eye. Explaining it would take more than one sitting, but I can tell you this in a nutshell: overcoming silly fears, rediscovering a spirit I though I'd lost, enjoying energy I never thought would return...these were the real victories. And in the end, it's always the "off court" victories that matter most.

So here's to tennis...or photography or cooking or writing or running...to whatever it is that both challenges you and inspires you to live life to the FULL!

  6. Linsey-a touching and MOST inspiring post. You're a girl after my own heart! Ok: you are a talented artist, decorator, gor-jus mom, spirit-filled and now CHEERLEADER aka "encourager." Thanks for this word!

  7. I can't even believe how much your two little ones look like you did at that age! That 'eighties tennis photo is DIVINE!!! And thank you so much for writing about Get Lucky here--I'm so glad you devoured it, and I love the idea of reading in the hammock... I need to find myself a hammock, I think. How dreamy!!! So glad you had a great vacation!! Welcome home!

  8. Glad to see you are enjoying summer. I will have to add "Get Lucky" to my summer reading list (which is growing long enough to carry into fall).
